Disability services

NMITE offers a variety of support for students who have disabilities including, but not limited to, specific learning difficulties, eg. dyslexia, ADHD, mental health and wellbeing difficulties, autism spectrum disorder, hearing impairment, visual impairment and long-term health conditions.

We’ll make reasonable adjustments to learning and assessment to ensure that students with a disability have equal opportunities. All materials will be provided in alternative formats where possible.

Reasonable adjustments are also available for students who might not consider themselves to have a ‘disability’ but who nevertheless would benefit from additional support due to an ongoing medical or mental health condition.

We can provide the following types of support:

  • Assessment adjustments
  • Learning support
  • Assistive software
  • Accommodation adaptions
  • Mentoring support

Working in partnership with students and other relevant agencies allows us to remove barriers to education. Please advise us as early as possible in your application process if you require any type of support. Disclosing a need for support will not affect your application to study at NMITE. Your information will enable us to tailor selection activities to suit your individual needs.

When you are making your application to NMITE, part of the process is your agreement to share information with relevant departments. If you would prefer for information about a disability or support need not to be shared, it will be important for you to inform Student Support & Services early in the application process.

Whilst studying at NMITE, if you have or develop a need for support, please let the Student Support Services team know as soon as you can. Understanding your support needs as they develop or change allows us to work closely with other departments to make sure the support you require is in place as early as possible.

Before you start at NMITE or at any point during your studies you may be eligible for Disabled Students Allowance (DSA). The link to DSA includes eligibility criteria and how to apply. If eligible, you can receive DSA allowances on top of your other student finance. You will not need to repay DSAs.
