Our differences create diversity and strength - at NMITE and across the engineering industry
Our commitment to you – as a student, alumnus, colleague, partner, employer or local community member - is to champion a positive and inclusive culture. We advocate for mutual respect in all that we do, for each other, and for the values, beliefs, and individual differences we all hold.
We work to create a welcoming and inclusive culture that supports choice, opportunity, achievement, and excellence; making NMITE a community that people want to join.
Being part of NMITE means being yourself, safe in the knowledge that individuality is accepted and celebrated. We provide a welcoming, friendly environment where there is no room for intolerance, prejudice, or exclusion – in any shape or form.
We’ve set our goals high – to become a model for respect, equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in the studio, as well as the workplace. We embrace what sets us apart from one another, and we fundamentally believe in the strengths that these differences can bring. We’re committed to always pursuing this standard of excellence.
It is our commitment to positively contribute to, and help change, an engineering profession that is more representative of our society. A huge challenge, but one we are willing to tackle head on, as we truly believe that the challenges faced around the world, require diverse solutions, which can only come from diverse thinkers with diverse ideas.
There are EDI challenges in engineering, both in education and in the profession. We’re therefore determined to diversify the engineering sector, actively seeking to attract, recruit, support and promote talented individuals from all different backgrounds and heritages. Specifically, we’ve committed to reducing the gender disparity seen in engineering, attracting people from different backgrounds, and supporting different social identities, LGBTQ+ and disabled communities.
At NMITE we passionately believe that our learning and working environment is enriched by us working together to create a culture in which every member of the NMITE community is accepted, respected and the different contributions that each of us brings is valued.
Our staff provide the foundations of NMITE’s thriving and innovative learning community. So it makes sense that we’re dedicated to ensuring equal opportunities for all job applicants and employees too - embracing different backgrounds, beliefs and characteristics whenever we can.
We also recognise our responsibility and duties under the Government’s Prevent Strategy to be aware of and, where appropriate, act to ensure the safety of all students from radicalisation and extremism.
Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Strategic Advisory Group oversees policies, procedures and works to ensure that EDI is embedded throughout all NMITE activities. The team ensures that NMITE’s EDI goals and strategies reflect educational and industry challenges and opportunities at all times.
